Corruption is a temporary status effect that causes the player to lose a set amount of prayer points over a short time, indicated by a hitsplat (
) displaying the amount of prayer points that has been drained.The severity of the corruption is dependent on the type of corruption spells used by the player, which have a 50% chance of inflicting the status on their next successful hit.
- Lesser Corruption drains 6 prayer points over the course of 30 ticks (18s). The first drains 1 prayer point, the second 2 prayer points, and the third drains 3 points.
- Greater Corruption drains 12 prayer points over the course of 30 ticks (18s). The first drains 2 prayer points, the second 4 prayer points, and the third drains 6 prayer points.
Players who become corrupted by another player who has the Mark of Darkness spell active will have corruption occur every 5 ticks instead of 10.
When a target is corrupted, a message in the chatbox appears for both the caster and target indicating that the target has been successfully corrupted.
Players can cast Ward of Arceuus to become temporarily immune to corruption, or to nullify its effect post-corruption. If a player with corruption spells active attacks an opposing player with Ward of Arceuus active, the attacker's corruption spells will remain active until the target's Ward expires, after which the next successful attack post-expiration will roll the chance for corruption.
Some NPCs are also capable of inflicting corruption:
- The Phantom Muspah will inflict corruption if their magic attack is not protected against, draining 18 prayer points over the course of 30 ticks (18s).The first drains 3 prayer points, the second 6 prayer points, and the third drains 9 prayer points.
- Phantom Hands summoned by Xamphur will inflict Greater Corruption upon a successful hit.
- Kasonde the Craven can corrupt players via the vials he throws, draining 6 prayer points over the course of 20 ticks (12s). The first drains 2 prayer points, and the second drains 4 prayer points.
